Portraiture as presence

In HUMANIZER, Julien Gilles explores the face as a territory of identity. Crosshatched lines build volume and move through the features, while colour opens up further readings. The figure remains recognisable without being confined to a single definition.

The gaze is central. It establishes a relationship with the viewer, while material and line preserve a measure of uncertainty. In paintings such as NAYA and George, the figure asserts itself through its presence and through what remains unresolved.

The collection includes paintings in different formats. Open an artwork page to explore photographs and dimensions, or contact the artist to discuss a particular work.
