Encounters with the living world

WILD brings together Julien Gilles’s animal paintings. Cats, elephants, monkeys and birds appear as presences to encounter. Colour and gesture shift the act of representation: an animal may become familiar, powerful, vulnerable or enigmatic.

Each painting offers a different relationship with the living world. The feline gaze of Cat’s blues, the graphic energy of Pan Pow and the familiar presence of Rafiki introduce distinct registers within the same bestiary.

The collection includes available paintings and selected sold works to show the development of this enquiry. The information on each artwork page provides a starting point for an acquisition enquiry or a conversation with the artist.
